Version: 4
FIRMWARE UPGRADE REQUIRED: Smart Array 6i, 641/642, and 6402/6404 Controllers Running Firmware Version Earlier Than Version 2.48 May Report Battery Failure

NOTICE:

The information in this document, including products and software versions, is current as of the Release Date. This document is subject to change without notice.

Release Date: 2005-09-29

description

IMPORTANT:  This firmware update is considered a critical fix and is required to prevent the issue detailed below. HP strongly recommends immediate application of this critical fix. Neglecting to perform the required action could leave the server in an unstable condition, which could potentially result in sub-optimal server performance, server lock-ups or failures, ungraceful server shutdowns, hardware damage, or data corruption or loss. By disregarding this notification, the customer accepts the risk of incurring future related errors.

HP recommends Smart Array Controller Firmware Version 2.48 (or later) to correct the Smart Array battery status messages (listed below) that may occur during Power-On Self-Test (POST) or when using version 7.30 (or later) of the HP Array Configuration Utility (ACU), HP Array Diagnostics Utility (ADU), or HP System Management Homepage (SMH). These messages may occur on a ProLiant server configured with one of the Smart Array Controllers listed in the Scope section (below) that is running a firmware version PRIOR to version 2.48 and version 7.30 (or later) of the ACU, ADU, or SMH.

If the following battery failure messages occur when running version 7.30 (or later) of the ACU, ADU, or SMH and Smart Array Controller Firmware Version 2.48 (or later), they should be considered accurate messages and battery replacement is required as described in the Resolution section.

If version 7.30 (or later) of the ACU, ADU, or SMH report battery failure AFTER the above upgrade has been applied, battery replacement is required using Spares Kit 307132-001. The Smart Array 6402/6404 Controllers have two batteries that should be replaced together (as a best practice), even if only one battery has failed. If a battery replacement is warranted, obtain Spares Kit 307132-001 using one of the following methods:
